REPROOFING BREATHABLE GARMENTS When does a Garment need to be reproofed? After some use a waterproof / breathable garment may start 'wetting out', that is the face fabric appears to be absorbing water rather than it beading on the surface. This is likely to be the result of clogged pores in the fabric and / or the loss of DWR (durable water repellent fluoroplolymer). 'Wet out' can reduce the breathability of the garment and reduced breathability may result in perspiration build up inside the garment. This is sometimes mis-interpreted as the garment leaking. If this happens the user should try washing the garment. If the garment continues to 'wet out' after washing then the garment should be re-proofed as per the above instructions. Reproofing Gore-Tex® & other breathable laminates  Before reproofing it is important to thoroughly clean the garment as per the directions on the Cleaning Breathable Garments page. Also refer to care instructions on the garment label. You may be able to re-activate the durable water-repellent (DWR) fluoropolymer on your garment without using any re-proofing products. To do this, tumble dry on warm setting (55C) until dry. Heat from the dryer helps to enhance the water-beading properties on the surface of the outer fabric. If the garment does not regain its water-beading properties then you will need to use a re-proofing product such as Grangers XT, Nikwax TX Direct or Gecko Guard. Reproofing Reflex™ and other breathable coatings Before reproofing it is important to throughly clean the garment as per the directions on the Cleaning Breathable Garments page. Also refer to care instructions in garment label. Hand wash according to the instructions to clean the item then rinse thoroughly to insure all of the soap residue is removed. After rinsing, wash in Nikwax TX Direct or alternatively, spray with Gecko Guard or Grangers XT.
